A rock slide at the Tennessee state line has caused I-40 to close in both directions at mile marker 3, affecting motorists traveling from the west. Guests traveling from the north, south or east are not affected by this road closure. For the express route, the NC Department of Transportation advises taking I-81 North to Johnson City, then I-26 East to Asheville.
