About John Ortberg

John Ortberg is passionate about “spiritual formation,” and showing people how to become more like Jesus. His teaching brings Scripture alive and invariably includes practical applications and warm humor.
 
John graduated from Wheaton College and has a Master of Divinity and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Seminary. John serves as senior pastor at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, in Menlo Park, CA. 
 
He is the author of a number of books including, When the Game is Over, It all Goes Back in the Box; If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to get Out of the Boat; The Life You’ve Always Wanted, Faith and Doubt and most recently The Me I Want To Be, among others.  
 
John was born in Rockford, Illinois. His wife Nancy is also a seminary graduate and served as a teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church.  They have been married for over 25 years and are parents of Laura, Mallory and John.
