About Fernando Ortega
The music of singer/songwriter Fernando Ortega is rooted in a New Mexico village near the banks of the Rio Grande, where his family lived for eight generations. From there it rose from a bedrock of classical training and blossomed into a sound that embraces modern folk, rustic hymnody, Celtic, Latin American, world music, and two categories for which he’s won Dove Awards—bluegrass and inspirational.
Fernando is renowned for his engaging interpretations of traditional favorites like “Give Me Jesus” and “Be Thou My Vision,” and for writing poetic yet conversational originals such as “This Good Day” and “Children of the Living God.”
His newest recording, 2011’s Come Down, O Love Divine, invites listeners to journey into a place of reflection and worship. Combining flavors of Renaissance sacred music with his unique style, the album’s highlights include “Just As I Am,” a moving tribute to Billy Graham based on the beloved hymn; “Ruby's Advent Song,” a beautiful instrumental composed for Fernando's young daughter; and “Trisagion,” a reverent prayer for mercy.
